SUMMARY:CEALS Presents - Start-Ups and the Law: A Comparison Between Japan and America
DESCRIPTION:CEALS will hold a comparative law lunch presentation about startup companies and the law.  Alissa Miky of Aqua Theon will discuss her experiences starting up a company that operates both in America and Japan.  She will discuss her thoughts about strategy regarding funding and Intellectual Property.  Akiyo Inoko Hewett\, who is licensed as an attorney in Japan and America\, will discuss her experience establishing a business as fractional counsel for Japanese startups that operate in in the United States.  The presentation will be moderated by Adjunct Professor David Makman\, who will discuss industrial policy in the US and Japan as it relates to the startup community.  A light lunch will be served.\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate/Time: Thursday\, October 8\, 2026\, 12:30-1:30 PM\nLocation: Deb Colloquium Room (UC Law SF\, 333 Golden Gate Ave\, 5th Floor)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHybrid Event — This event will be live-streamed via Zoom.
