We invite leaders and managers of programs that serve older adults and their family caregivers in California in any these areas:  \n\nHealth care (providers\, plans\, networks\, teams) \n\n\nHousing \n\n\nLaw/advocacy \n\n\nPublic guardian \n\n\nLTSS/LTC \n\n\nBehavioral health \n\n\nSocial services/CBOs \n\n\nPayment/financing \n\n\nResearch/data analysis/academia \n\nConvening Objectives  \n\nConnect health care\, housing\, advocacy\, and other community-based organizations serving older Californians and their caregivers. \n\n\nBuild shared understanding of older adults’ specific needs and barriers across care\, housing and advocacy\, and strengthen collective knowledge of existing resources and infrastructure intended to support them.  \n\n\nAmplify successful models and strategies for preventing housing loss\, navigating across housing and care settings\, and supporting older adults in accessing care options in the community or least restrictive settings possible. \n\n\nCollectively strategize around ways to disseminate and build upon successful models\, such as medical-legal partnerships\, at the state and local levels \n\nAttendees are encouraged to join a pre-convening online orientation on Tuesday\, August 19. This 90-minute session is designed for practitioners who are already working in or adjacent to the aging field but have not had formal exposure to other systems of care. Whether you come from a health or long-term care setting\, a housing or community development role\, a legal or advocacy background\, or community-based social services work\, this session will give you a shared map of how the systems fit together\, what each one covers\, how it is funded\, and where the seams and gaps are. He has published eleven book titles and more than 150 shorter works\, and his scholarship has been cited in more than fifty judicial opinions. In 2024\, he served as counsel of record for the petitioner in Harrow v. Department of Defense\, securing a unanimous reversal from the U.S. Supreme Court. \n\n\n \nRichard Boswell\nProfessor of Law and Associate Dean for Global Programs\, UC Law San Francisco \nProfessor Richard Boswell specializes in immigration law\, international law\, and clinical legal education. Before joining UC Law San Francisco\, he founded the immigration clinic at the George Washington University National Law Center and directed its Trial Practice Program. He has authored numerous books and articles on immigration law\, testified before congressional committees\, and contributed to rule-of-law and justice projects around the world. \n\nModerator Biography\n\n \nRory K. Little\nSullivan Professor of Law\, UC Law San Francisco \nProfessor Rory K. Little is a nationally recognized authority on constitutional law\, criminal law and procedure\, appellate litigation\, and professional responsibility. Before joining the UC Law San Francisco faculty\, he served as Appellate Chief for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California. She is the author of Last Boat Out of Shanghai: The Epic Story of the Chinese Who Fled Mao’s Revolution\, published after twelve years of research and more than 100 survivor interviews\, as well as Asian American Dreams: The Emergence of an American People\, a finalist for the Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize\, and My Country Versus Me\, the story of Los Alamos scientist Wen Ho Lee. She served as Executive Editor of Ms. Magazine and is a Fulbright Scholar and graduate of Princeton University’s first coeducational class. \n  \n  \nSpeaker Biographies\n  \n \nAdanté Pointer \nFounding Partner\, Pointer & Buelna LLP – Lawyers For The People \n  \nAdanté Pointer is an award-winning\, nationally recognized civil rights attorney who has represented families for over 20 years\, securing many of the highest verdicts and settlements in the nation. He represented the family of Oscar Grant in their case against BART\, later depicted in the film Fruitvale Station\, and has been named to the Daily Journal’s Top 100 Attorneys. In June 2022\, he won a record-setting $21 million verdict in a federal jury trial against the Fremont Police Department. \n  \n  \n\nRussell Jeung \nProfessor\, Asian American Studies\, San Francisco State University \n  \nDr. Russell Jeung is a sociologist whose research focuses on race\, religion\, and social movements within Asian American communities. He is the author of five books\, including Family Sacrifices: The Worldviews and Ethics of Chinese Americans and Faithful Generations: Race and New Asian American Churches\, and co-produced the documentary The Oak Park Story. In 2020\, he launched Stop AAPI Hate\, a coalition project that tracks COVID-19-related discrimination to inform community resources and policy interventions against racism. \n  \n  \n \nShirin Sinnar \nProfessor of Law\, Stanford Law School \n  \nShirin Sinnar is an expert in civil rights litigation\, national security law\, and the legal treatment of political violence\, with particular focus on legal responses to hate crimes and terrorism. Her scholarship has appeared in the Harvard Law Review\, Stanford Law Review\, and other leading journals\, and in 2017 she was the co-recipient of the inaugural Mike Lewis Prize for National Security Law Scholarship. Appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom\, she served on the California Commission on the State of Hate\, and in 2021 testified before the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on anti-Asian hate violence. \n  \n
