UC Law SF Ranks No. 18 for Law Schools Launching Legal Scholars
UC Law San Francisco has emerged as a top law school for producing alumni hired as tenure-track law faculty—underscoring its influence in shaping the future of legal education.
A new analysis by Professor Sarah Lawsky of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law shows that UC Law SF ranks No. 18 in the nation for the number of graduates hired into tenure-track teaching positions at U.S. law schools between 2011 and 2025. The school tied with the University of Texas, with 11 alumni stepping into these highly competitive roles over the 14-year span.
The ranking is based on detailed data compiled by Lawsky from public sources—including school websites and social media—as well as direct submissions, offering a comprehensive view of hiring trends across legal academia.
The placement highlights UC Law SF’s reputation for academic rigor, strong mentorship, and a scholarly environment that prepares graduates not only to practice law, but to shape it.
“UC Law SF has long fostered the kind of intellectual independence and scholarly curiosity that empower graduates to pursue meaningful careers—whether in the classroom, in public service, or in private practice,” said Provost & Academic Dean Morris Ratner.
