Bio

Allison Garbutt Macbeth received her bachelor’s degree from University of California, Los Angeles and her law degree from University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco.  After briefly working as a Legal Research Assistant for the San Francisco Superior Court, Allison joined the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office in 2000, beginning in the Writs & Appeals Unit, where she handled a variety of serious and complex cases.  Through her subsequent assignments within SFDA, Allison prosecuted over 30 jury trials to verdict.  Allison moved back to Writs & Appeals and Trial Integrity Units in 2010, later becoming the managing attorney of Writs & Appeals.  In 2022, Allison became an Assistant Chief District Attorney, supervising the Writs & Appeals, Trial Integrity, and Post Conviction Review Units.

Allison has taught at UC Law SF since 2001.  Allison’s courses included Legal Writing, Moot Court, and Appellate Advocacy; Allison began teaching Advanced Legal Writing in 2017. Allison is also a Senior Research Fellow with the California Constitution Center at Berkeley Law.
