UC Law San Francisco Conducts National Search for a New Chancellor & Dean

UC Law San Francisco is conducting a national search for a new chancellor & dean to lead the College.

Chancellor & Dean David Faigman, who joined the faculty in 1987 and has served as chancellor & dean since 2016, announced in December 2025 that he plans to return to scholarship and teaching. He will step down as chancellor & dean in June 2027 after a highly successful decade in the role.

A seven-member search committee is overseeing the search while working to ensure a smooth transition for the College.  The search committee includes four members of the UC Law SF board of directors and three faculty members. Members include:

  • Board of Directors Chair Albert Zecher
  • Board of Directors Vice Chair Andrew Houston ’07
  • Director Courtney Greene Power ’01 (Chair, Search Committee)
  • Director Joshua Perttula ’98
  • Ben Depoorter, Max Radin Distinguished Professor of Law (Vice Chair, Search Committee)
  • Jodi Short, Mary Kay Kane Distinguished Professor of Law
  • Gail Silverstein, Associate Dean for Experiential Learning, Co-Director of Public Interest and the Social Justice Center, and Clinical Professor

Russell Reynolds Associates, a global executive search and leadership advisory firm, will support the work of the search committee.

The committee will be involved in recruiting, screening, and conducting interviews with candidates.

Public input is encouraged. This page will be updated with information about the search, including opportunities for College stakeholders to provide input. Nominations and application materials, as well as comments and inquiries, may be submitted via email to UCLawSF.Chancellor@russellreynolds.com.
