Mary Leichlite

Bio

Mary M. Leichliter founded ReSOLVE to provide independent mediation services rooted in two decades of trial advocacy before juries in state and federal court. Since 2012, she has worked as a full-time neutral, having now mediated over 1500 disputes. During mediation, Mary centers the parties ’interests and negotiating goals, offering her experienced judgment and transparent communication to advance a productive negotiation. Attorneys and their clients compliment Mary’s creative problem-solving, empathy, negotiating skills, and ability to connect with people to quickly engender trust, all while moving the case toward settlement.

Mary maintains a successful track record of working with parties from diverse backgrounds and industries. She regularly assists with pre-litigation and early mediations where emotions can run high and settlement seems challenging. Mediated cases include federal and state disability, race, sex, age, pregnancy and religious discrimination, wage and hour, sexual and racial harassment, retaliation, violation of public policy, housing discrimination, labor, and police brutality disputes. She is a Member of U.S.D.C. Northern District Mediation Panel, San Mateo Superior Court Panel, EEOC mediation panel, and other respected panels, and has coached mediation with the Northern California Mediation Center, UC Berkeley School of Law, and UC Law SF.

Among other trial experience in state and federal court, Mary was lead trial and appellate counsel on Betts v. United Airlines, Inc., 246 F.3d. 672 (9th Cir. 2000), resulting in a $1.58 jury verdict, upheld on appeal. She attended the University of Michigan twice, receiving her J.D. and her B.A. with Highest Honors in English and Russian there. She has lived and worked in Ireland and Japan and taken the Trans-Siberian train from Vladivostok to Moscow.
