Lauren Diaz

Bio

Lauren E. Diaz is a Visiting Professor at UC Law San Francisco, where she teaches HPL Research and Writing. She is a licensed attorney, legal educator, law librarian, and scholar whose work sits at the intersection of legal research, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and legal education.

In addition to her role at UC Law San Francisco, Professor Diaz serves as Associate Director of Operations and Collections at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. She teaches Advanced Legal Research and Advanced Legal Research with AI Tools and designed one of the first law school courses devoted specifically to AI-assisted legal research. She also serves as the Technology and Innovation Fellow and as a bar coach.

Professor Diaz is the author of the forthcoming book The AI Legal Researcher: Legal Research in the Age of Generative AI, to be published by Carolina Academic Press. She is also the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law, Emerging Technology, and Information, an independent, open-access, expert-edited publication dedicated to advancing practical legal scholarship beyond traditional timelines and formats.

Professor Diaz regularly presents at conferences and leads webinars and professional programs. Her scholarship and teaching have also been selected for nationally recognized programs. She is the 2026 recipient of the AALL/LexisNexis Call for Papers Award and the AALL Minority Leadership Development Award.
Her article “Intellectual Property Rights in Pornographic Content Creation: Are Your OnlyFans Your Only Fans?” was cited by the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division Seven, in Wawrzenski v. United Airlines, Inc., 106 Cal. App. 5th 663 (2024). She has also been interviewed by news outlets about intellectual property, online content creation, digital exploitation, and the unauthorized use of creators’ content and likenesses. Through her teaching, scholarship, and public commentary, Professor Diaz contributes to national conversations on technology, legal education, and the evolving practice of law.

Professor Diaz earned her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, where she served as an Articles Editor for the Nova Law Review. She also holds a Master of Science in Information and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida State University.
