Bio
AJ Jonathan staffs the Law Library at UC College of the Law as a Research and Instruction Librarian and serves as an adjunct professor teaching Advanced Legal Research. As a librarian, AJ is a dedicated generalist focused on information literacy and accessibility. AJ maintains knowledge of the breadth of law and information sciences, with special interests in civil rights; critical legal studies; ethics; intellectual property; legal history; peaceful conflict resolution; research methodologies; and social, emotional, and experiential learning.
AJ earned a Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Sexuality Studies from New York University in 2017, a Juris Doctorate from University of California, Berkeley in 2024, and a Master of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University in 2025. During their graduate education, AJ performed research for Library Futures at NYU School of Law, the Law Library at UC Berkeley School of Law, and the Center on Comparative Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law at UC Berkeley School of Law. Prior, AJ worked with the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law; California YMCA Youth and Government; and Outright International.
AJ currently supports the Friends of the San Quentin Prison Library as a volunteer and contributes to local community as an organizer specializing in legal literacy. They are a proud member of UC-AFT Local 1474 Unit 17.
