Bio

Tamara Ribas serves as a Judge at the State Bar Court of California, the only independent professional court dedicated to ruling on attorney discipline cases.  Judge Ribas sits in the Review Department, which is the appellate level, and she was appointed to this position by the California Supreme Court in 2022.  Previously, she was an Administrative Judge for 16 years at the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board where she adjudicated federal employment cases.  Prior to her judicial career, Judge Ribas was an Assistant Regional Counsel/Senior Attorney at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services where she advised the Indian Health Service and developed a robust skill set involving counseling and litigation in health law, administrative law, and Native American law.  She began her career as a Deputy Public Defender in Santa Clara County after receiving her juris doctor degree from UC Hastings College of Law (now UC Law SF) where she was an Articles Editor for the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal.  She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with multiple honors.
