Summer Legal Internship
Open to currently matriculated law students who will have completed their 1L year by summer. Position is in person or hybrid in San Francisco, California. Open until filled, but applicants encouraged to apply by February 15.
The Center for Constitutional Democracy at UC Law San Francisco invites applications from outstanding law students for its summer Legal Internship.
Engage in innovative work across legal strategy to defend and advance rights, justice, and democracy, and make a real difference in people’s lives. Fellows will work directly with the Executive Director and conduct legal research for work in the courts, legislatures and government agencies, and communities in California.
About: The Center for Constitutional Democracy is the newest research center at UC Law SF and was publicly launched in September 2025. It is the intellectual hub and action center bringing together scholars, practitioners, and community leaders for critical work across legal and policy strategy to defend and advance rights, justice, and democracy.
Right now, the fabric of democracy, rule of law, and our constitutional and civil rights are being challenged on many fronts while we are also in a period of rapid technological change with advances in artificial intelligence.
Through cutting-edge scholarship, high-impact legal and policy projects in our courts, legislatures, and communities, and supporting a new generation of leaders, we will meet the moment and build for the future.
Focus areas of the Center for Constitutional Democracy include:
- Defending and Advancing U.S. Constitutional Rights and California Law;
- Strengthening Constitutional Democracy in the AI Age; and
- Building for the Future – Making Democracy Work for All.

The Executive Director of the Center for Constitutional Democracy is Nicole Ozer – a national leader in cutting-edge law and policy to advance rights, justice, and democracy and a legal expert on artificial intelligence, privacy and surveillance, and digital speech.
Legal Interns should possess:
- Excellent research and communication skills, both verbal and writing
- Demonstrated interest in constitutional law (such as privacy, free speech, due process, etc), civil rights, and public interest law
- Attention to detail and time-management skills
- The ability to work both collaboratively and independently and see projects through to completion

Legal Fellow
Open to recent law graduates who can obtain funding. Shorter term “bridge” fellowships and longer-term positions both possible. Position is in person or hybrid in San Francisco, California. Open until filled.

Open to currently matriculated graduate school students who will have completed their first year by summer and all current matriculated undergraduate students who will have completed their third year by summer; Preference for in-person or hybrid in San Francisco, California but fully remote internship positions may also be available; Open until filled, but applicants encouraged to apply by April 15.

Semester Research Assistant
Open to UC Law SF students who will be 2Ls or 3Ls during the work period; Apply by March 15 to be considered for a Fall Semester position; Apply by October 15 to be considered for a Spring Semester position. Positions are 5 -10 hours/week, including regular check-in meetings.
