Sixteen legal and technology leaders — many of them UC Law San Francisco alumni —have joined a new advisory board aimed at helping the College respond to how artificial intelligence is changing legal practice and legal education.

The Advisory Board on the Technological Transformation of Legal Practice & Education held its first meeting in December.

The board brings together executives, general counsel, and innovation leaders from technology companies and major law firms where AI is already reshaping day-to-day legal work. Its role is to advise UC Law SF on curriculum, professional skills training, and the responsible use of AI in teaching and academic operations, as the legal profession adapts to new tools and expectations.

UC Law SF has been building programs focused on technology and law for more than a decade, including the AI & Law Innovation Institute, the Center for Innovation, LexLab, the Startup Legal Garage, and a Technology Law & Lawyering concentration. The advisory board is intended to connect that academic work more directly to current practice and emerging industry standards.

Members of the Advisory Board on the Technological Transformation of Legal Practice & Education are:

  • Ashley Pantuliano ’11, Deputy General Counsel, OpenAI
  • Alexandra Stathopoulos, Partner, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP
  • David Wang, Chief Innovation Officer, Cooley LLP
  • Iain Cunningham ’04, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, NVIDIA
  • Jo Levy, Partner, The Norton Law Firm
  • Kerry McLean ’93, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Intuit

  • Shashi Deb ’94, Adjunct Professor and Board Director, UC Law SF

  • Svetlana Matt ’12, Director, Public Policy, DISH Network

The board will advise UC Law SF as it carries out its Strategic Plan on Generative AI, which focuses on updating curriculum, aligning learning outcomes with evolving professional skills, and integrating AI tools into teaching and assessment where appropriate.

“The board brings together leaders who are grappling with these issues every day in practice,” said Drew Amerson, director of LexLab, UC Law SF’s center for technology law and lawyering. “Their insight helps ensure that UC Law SF continues to lead in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies that are reshaping the legal profession.”
