When our graduates cross the stage at Commencement, they enter the legal profession ready to practice, from the steps of their local courthouse to the highest corporate towers. They learn from faculty who are redefining law and policy for the age of AI, shaping advancements in health, the environment and beyond, and safeguarding liberty and justice for all.

Each fall, a new class of future lawyers and leaders arrives on campus with aspirations of professional success and societal change that have been realized by generations of UC Law San Francisco graduates. The path they’ve chosen will be difficult but meaningful, and they count on UC Law SF’s supporters to make crucial investments and provide the financial resources that will help them succeed.

Student Success

Today’s law students must navigate financial pressures in addition to the rigors of a top legal education. At the same time, the College faces stiff competition for the best and brightest students. The best law schools provide scholarships to attract and retain talented students, and UC Law SF’s students rely on them.

“Receiving this scholarship is a tremendous honor. Jeanette M. Acosta’s legacy represents courage, commitment, and a deep belief in justice for marginalized communities. This scholarship reinforced my dedication to advocating for immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants who are facing increased levels of persecution. The scholarship also helps ease the financial stress of affording law school, allowing me to prioritize my studies.” – Nimsi Garcia Sandoval ’27

Academic Excellence

The quality of the faculty has long been a distinction for UC Law San Francisco. Our students have benefited from top-tier professors stretching back before the 65 Club and since. So many of our alumni remember those moments of clarity, encouragement, and advice that were inspired by a UC Law SF professor.

“I take my students extremely seriously and I take my responsibility to them extremely seriously,” said Professor Emily Murphy, recipient of the 2024 Rutter Award for Teaching Excellence. “I think that being taken seriously is a prerequisite for trust, which is a prerequisite for learning.”

“Professor Murphy is one of the country’s top scholars, having defined new fields of inquiry at the intersection of neuroscience, behavioral science, and law—and yet she also prioritizes teaching excellence,” said Provost & Academic Dean Morris Ratner.
