The Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution (CNDR) at UC Law San Francisco is proud to announce that 3L Ron Kinan has been awarded the 2025 Francis E. McGovern Scholarship.

The McGovern Scholarship honors the legacy of the late Professor Francis McGovern, a pioneer in the field of alternative dispute resolution, and recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the study and practice of ADR.

Ron has had a deep interest in mastering all aspects of dispute resolution. Through his coursework at CNDR, he has studied a comprehensive range of ADR methods and learned from leading scholars through CNDR’s acclaimed Speaker Series. Last semester, he proudly represented UC Law SF at the Sports Law Negotiation Competition in Los Angeles, and he looks forward to continuing to bring his competitive spirit and collaborative approach to the ADR team this year.

Reflecting on the award, Ron shared:

“I am truly honored to receive the 2025 Francis E. McGovern Scholarship from CNDR. This award recognizes my dedication to mastering dispute resolution, a pursuit that has strengthened both my legal skills and my passion for collaborative conflict resolution. As a member of UC Law SF’s ADR team, I’ve learned to advocate persuasively for my clients, balance competing interests, and preserve professional relationships in high-stakes negotiations. The techniques I’ve honed through coursework and competition are transferable across every field of law, equipping me to serve clients more effectively throughout my career.”

Ron expressed his gratitude to Professors Hiro Aragaki and Clint Waasted, as well as the entire CNDR faculty, for their mentorship and for fostering an inclusive academic environment. He also thanks Katy McGovern, who established this generous scholarship to support students pursuing their passion for ADR.

Please join us in congratulating Ron!
