Donors Make Student Success Possible

Each fall, a new class of future lawyers and leaders arrives at UC Law San Francisco with bold aspirations—ready to serve their communities, champion justice, and shape the future of the law.
Their journey is both challenging and inspiring, and they depend on donors to make their success possible. By providing competitive scholarships and vital resources, donors ensure that opportunity and excellence remain within reach, allowing students to thrive despite the financial pressures of a top legal education.
A New Precedent for Success
Through the Into the Future campaign, donors can create scholarships that make UC Law SF more affordable and prestigious. Endowed scholarships will draw exceptional students from California and across the country, while also strengthening the College’s reputation.
Beyond scholarships, donor support enriches student opportunities—funding fellowships, organizations, clinics, bar prep, and initiatives such as the Legal Opportunity Program and the First-Generation Program.
For generations, UC Law SF has transformed student success into professional success. As donors, you can set a new precedent for student achievement Into the Future.

Donor Scholarships Created Incredible Opportunities for David Casarrubias-González ’18
For nearly 150 years, UC Law San Francisco has been California’s first destination for those making the journey from ambitious law student to successful lawyer. And as tuition and living costs have risen, it’s been scholarship donors who have paved the way for that success.
Today, the College is the No. 1 law school in lawyers admitted to the California bar. David Casarrubias-González ’18 is one of those lawyers whose achievements were supported by donors. During his three years at UC Law SF, he received scholarships from general sources and donor-funded endowments.
“I am the first in my family to graduate from college and pursue a law degree,” he said. “The scholarships I received helped me cover my tuition so I could focus on school and compete on my Moot Court team.”
Casarrubias-González thrived as a result.
Now senior counsel in the Corporate and Risk Management Group at Hanson Bridgett LLP, he’s represented a mix of clients, from asylum seekers to cannabis companies to public transportation districts. In 2022, he secured a victory in the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for a Nigerian asylum seeker who was threatened with a death sentence for being gay.
“I am grateful for what the school—and its donors—did for me as a student, and what they continue to do for the next generations of diverse lawyers who, year after year, choose UC Law SF for their legal education,” he said.
