Reciprocity Policy

The CDO at UC Law SF is located in the heart of a large metropolitan area with a highly competitive legal market. As such it has become a target for many law school graduates from other cities/states. Our reciprocity policy is designed to fulfill our primary responsibility to serve UC Law SF graduates while still offering employment information to job candidates from other law schools.

To Request Reciprocity (non-UC Law students):

The CDO will provide reasonable access to resources for students of law schools outside of the San Francisco Bay Area per the following policy:

  1. Reciprocity is available to students of those ABA-accredited law schools that allow UC Law SF students to use their facilities. Reciprocity is granted on a one-for-one basis and lasts for three months or until May 15, whichever comes first. (Please note that we are not able to approve all requests.)
  2. Reciprocity services include only remote access to the online job board. Counseling, student jobs, and participation in OCIs or other job fairs are not included.
  3. When applying for jobs, all grantees are required to include in their cover letter that they have online access to the UC Law SF job board via Reciprocity.
  4. Requests for reciprocity must be made in writing via email by a career services official from the home law school and should indicate the student’s name, email address, phone number, and grad year. Approval for reciprocity must be granted in writing from the Career Development Office at UC Law SF; no drop- in visits.
  5. Requests from the same geographical areas as UC Law San Francisco will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Requests should be addressed to: reciprocity@uclawsf.edu

While there are no blackout dates, UC Law SF reserves the right to deny reciprocal services during peak seasons such as the beginning of the semester.

For Assistance Requesting Reciprocity (UC Law students seeking access to another law school):

  1. Please carefully review the reciprocity policies of the law school(s) you’re interested in (policies are generally posted on the law school’s website).
  2. Make sure the law schools’ reciprocity policies (a) meets your needs (e.g., remote online access) and (b) provides reciprocity for your class year (e.g., 3L, grad).
  3. Email the Career Development Office with a list of your top three* law schools that you would like to receive reciprocity; we will then submit a request on your behalf.

* If for some reason your first choice denies our request, we will then contact your next choice as you may receive reciprocity from only one school at a time.
