Annual Report 2021
Message from the Chancellor and Dean
Dear Alumni and Friends,
This past year has demonstrated and reinforced how well the UC Law SF community continued to adapt amid extraordinary challenges and constant changes. In the face of an ever-evolving pandemic, the College successfully and seamlessly pivoted away from a virtual learning environment and back to in-person instruction.
The return to campus punctuated the continuing ascent of our burgeoning academic village, an inclusive hub for discovery and innovation, and an incubator for tomorrow’s global leaders. It was an exciting milestone as we continue growing our network of partners and expanding our scope nationally.
Building a strong learning and collaborative enterprise requires teamwork. I remain most proud of the people I get to work with every day: our faculty and staff, the students whom we are educating – and you, our alumni, friends, and supporters – who are the heart of the law school.
Thank you for your unwavering support during a transformational year. I look forward to sharing stories of success with you as our legacy continues to unfold.
Sincerely,
David L. Faigman
Chancellor and Dean
Stories of Giving
We are so grateful to the donors who make our work possible. We rely on their generosity to accomplish our mission to provide an innovative and inclusive legal education that prepares diverse students to excel as professionals, advance the rule of law, and further justice.
Our donors tell us every day how passionate they are about supporting the College and how deeply they believe in our work. We’re excited to share testimonials from a few of our generous supporters.
The Numbers
The College is marked both by major opportunities to enhance the school’s competitive position through physical plant improvements and student attraction and retention initiatives—major developments that will affect the near-term future of the institution. Accordingly, alumni and private foundation support continues to be a priority.Since fiscal year 2003, the percentage of the budget funded by the state has decreased from 42% to 18%. It is because of the generosity of our alumni community that we can continue to provide a stellar legal education to our students. On behalf of all of us at UC Law SF, thank you.
*Based on percent to total college and foundation revenue; 2019 includes additional funding from the California Scholars Program to support students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
2021 Honor Roll of Donors
UC Law SF could not continue to do the important work of educating students for lives of service without the generous support of thousands of individuals, organizations and companies. This essential support ensures that students have needed scholarships, faculty have first-rate facilities and the College has the resources for both day-to-day activities and for the future. Here we gratefully recognize every donor who has made a gift to the College in the 2020-21 fiscal year.
