Board of
Directors
University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly “UC Hastings College of the Law”) was established by statute in 1878 and is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board sets policy for the College, approves its budget, and engages in other governance activities as set forth in the By-Laws and Standing Orders. The Chancellor and Dean is the chief executive officer of the College, with full authority over its departments and activities.
The members of the Board are appointed by the Governor of the State of California and confirmed by the State Senate for terms of 12 years.

The Provost & Academic Dean administers the academic program, including student-facing deans, departments, and faculty. The Dean of Students oversees student affairs and is responsible for assisting individual students with academic regulations.
